The Shearwater Tern Wrist Dive Computer brings Shearwater's renowned readability and intuitive operation to a compact, watch-style dive computer designed for recreational divers.
At the heart of the Tern is a brilliant 1.3-inch full-color AMOLED display with 360 x 360 resolution. The high-contrast screen provides crisp, easy-to-read dive information in a compact format, with customizable layouts that allow divers to focus on the information that matters most to them.
The Tern uses Shearwater's Remora Quick Release System, providing considerably more flexibility than a permanently attached conventional watch band.
The 22 mm quick-connect strap system allows straps to be changed to accommodate different wrist sizes, exposure suits and personal preferences. Shearwater also offers Remora strap configurations for use with thicker exposure protection.
That adaptability makes the Tern particularly interesting for divers who like the convenience of a watch-style computer but need greater flexibility in wrist fit.
The Tern supports Air, Nitrox, 3-Gas Nitrox, Gauge and Freediving modes, providing plenty of capability for recreational divers as their diving experience grows.
It uses the proven Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm with configurable Gradient Factors, bringing Shearwater's well-regarded decompression platform into an approachable sport-diving computer.
Customizable vibration alerts provide tactile notifications underwater, while Bluetooth connectivity allows communication with Shearwater Cloud for dive-log downloads, firmware updates and dive-data management.
The internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery eliminates routine disposable-battery replacement and charges wirelessly using the included charging station.
The Tern demonstrates that a compact wrist computer can still provide both excellent readability and adaptable fit.
Its bright AMOLED screen provides crisp, high-contrast dive information without requiring a large computer body. More importantly for our larger divers, the Remora Quick Release System allows the strap configuration to be changed for different wrist sizes and exposure suits rather than locking the diver into a single fixed-length band.
For divers who want a streamlined watch-style computer but have struggled with conventional wrist straps, the Tern deserves serious consideration.
This is the standard Shearwater Tern. It does not include wireless air integration or the built-in digital compass found on the Tern TX.
